Using your own custom domain is a great way to add a level of professionalism to your servers - with BattleCrate this is very easy to do! We host your games on the default port, so your users can simply enter a domain into their game and it will just work!
You must have already created a Crate to proceed- if you have not already done this head over to our Web App and create a new Crate.
Step 1: Locate your new server's IP address, this can easily be found in the Crate overview page, see below in red.
Step 2: Once you have your IP address you will need to head over to the portal for your Domain Registrar, or the place you are hosting your Name Servers. Examples of these platforms include GoDaddy, NameCheap, AWS, Crazy Domains and 123Reg.
For our demonstration we are going to be using Namecheap however the process will be very similar for any domain provider.
If you are using Namecheap you will see a panel such as this for your domain, head over to the Advanced DNS tab.
Step 3: Find the DNS records for your domain, these will usually appear in a table format and have titles such as A, CNAME, TXT, MX and others. Select "Add New Record" as shown in the image below and then select "A Record".
Step 4: Next we need to paste the IP address of our Crate into the "Value" section and select either "@" for the host or leave it blank.
Step 5: Save changes - we're done!
Domain changes can in theory take up to 48 hours to propagate, however the changes should be available within a few minutes depending on your ISP and where you are in the world.
